This time of year my husband is chomping at the bit to grill, grill, grill! He wants to grill everything—which is fine by me because not only is grilling a super-quick way to cook, but when it comes to lean proteins it guarantees flavorful, juicy results—without having to add a lot of fat or calories. (Or do extra dishes!)
There’s something about spring fruits—plump cherries, tart rhubarb, juicy apricots and sweet strawberries—that I just can’t get enough of.
I used to be into rock concerts packed with people, and the louder the better. Well, things have changed. I much prefer sprawling out on a checkered blanket on a lawn listening to live classical music. Not only is this more relaxing, but it allows me to do what I do best, pack an awesome picnic. Portability is key. But I also want to make sure what I’m packing in my picnic basket isn’t going pack on the pounds.
A few years ago, I bought a hot air popcorn popper at a yard sale for 25 cents. It was one of the best investments I ever made. On the way home, I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a bag of popcorn kernels—for less than the cost of a bag of potato chips—so that I could pop a batch of fresh, hot popcorn right away. That was the beginning of my love affair with popcorn.
Summer is just around the corner and that means that our weekends for the next few months are filling up with lots of road trips. My mother-in-law lives on Cape Cod, so we always plan a trip or two there to get in some beach time, and we’re finally going up to Acadia National Park in Maine for a weekend camping trip with friends. But the night before my husband, Dan, and I jump in the car, there’s one thing we always do: make some quick snacks.

Just like those resolutions in January, the anticipation of going out in public in a bathing suit is enough to get many of us flocking to the gym to drop pounds.

Every year, I look forward to Cinco de Mayo. Of course I’m very happy for the Mexican Army’s successes over the French in 1863, but that’s not why I’m excited. Cinco De Mayo is the perfect excuse to finally crawl out of my winter cocoon and share some fresh, delicious Mexican recipes with my friends.
